Man United’s Martial and Lingard Ruled Out For Up To Three Weeks

The two Red Devils stars will miss out on crucial matches against Chelsea in the FA Cup and Liverpool in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard will miss out on Manchester United’s upcoming games with Chelsea and Liverpool due to injury.

Lingard and Martial were forced out of this week’s Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain with groin and hamstring injuries, respectively.   As a result, they will miss the club’s FA Cup fifth-round clash with Chelsea on Monday as well as a Premier League battle with title contenders Liverpool on February 24.

One possible replacement named was striker Mason Greenwood but the 17-year-old is also injured, preventing him from making his first-team debut in their stead.

“I think they’ll be out for two-to-three weeks,” Solskjaer said of Lingard and Martial.”Then, you’re looking at young players, Mason Greenwood, it’s your time to step in, and he’s injured, unfortunately, out for a couple of weeks as well.”Sometimes that’s how the luck goes but Mason will get his chance.”

Lingard was forced out of the 2-0 defeat to PSG late in the first half and was replaced by a relatively ineffective Alexis Sanchez.   Solskjaer himself said there was little he could do to help the struggling Chilean, who failed to make an impact in his appearance.

Martial, meanwhile, was removed at half-time for Juan Mata after carrying an injury through the first half, as Solskjaer was forced into making two changes.   Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku will likely be given chances to prove themselves in the coming weeks while Solskjaer also says Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes are in contention.

“Chance for anyone who plays, Alexis, Romelu, Chongy or Angel,” Solskjaer said.   “Anthony and Jesse have done really well for us, they’re vital but then again with Rom and Alexis, they’ve got different skill sets and will be able to show what they can do. So, we just need to gel a team together for Monday.”

Following the clashes against Chelsea and Liverpool, United then face a visit to Crystal Palace and a fixture with Southampton at Old Trafford in the Premier League.   Then comes the Champions League return leg in Paris on March 6 when the Red Devils look to overcome their two-goal deficit without the likes of Paul Pogba, who will miss out after being sent off in Tuesday’s defeat at Old Trafford.

APC Presidential Campaign Council Rejects INEC Postponement Of Election

PRESS STATEMENT BY APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL ON POSTPONEMENT OF THE PRESIDENTIAL/NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND GUBERNATORIAL/HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS:

WE CONDEMN THE POSTPONEMENT OF THE ELECTIONS, BUT URGE OUR TEEMING SUPPORTERS TO BE PATIENT AND DETERMINED

We
have just received with great disappointment and disillusionment the
announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of
its decision to postpone the Presidential/National Assembly and
Gubernatorial/House of Assembly Elections to Saturday, February 23, 2019
and Saturday, March 9, 2019, respectively.

We condemn and
deprecate this tardiness of the electoral umpire in the strongest terms
possible. President Muhammadu Buhari had since cooperated fully with
INEC by ensuring EVERYTHING it demanded to conduct free and fair
elections were promptly made available to it. This news is therefore a
huge disappointment to us and to our teeming supporters nationwide and
around the world, many of whom have come into the country to exercise
their franchise.

We do hope that INEC will remain neutral and
impartial in this process as the rumor mill is agog with the suggestion
that this postponement has been orchestrated in collusion with the main
opposition, the PDP, that was NEVER ready for this election. We note
that all the major credible demographic projections have predicted a
defeat of the PDP and it seriously needed this breather to orchestrate
more devious strategies to try and halt President Buhari’s momentum. It
did the same as the ruling Party in 2015, when it realized the game was
up, by orchestrating the postponement of the 2015 elections by six
weeks. Now, it may be up to its old trick again.

We have earlier
raised the alarm that the PDP is bent on discrediting this process the
moment it realized it cannot make up the numbers to win this election.
We are only urging INEC not collude with the PDP on this. We are truly
worried because as early as Friday morning, some known PDP Social Media
influencers unwittingly announced this postponement, but quickly deleted
the message and apologized to the public that it was fake news. We do
not want to be forced to a situation of announcing our total loss of
confidence in INEC, because we know where that would leave our
democracy.

It is in the light of the above that we wish to
appeal to Nigerians and our supporters to be patient, calm and resolute
despite this temporary setback. Let us not give anyone, especially the
PDP, the opportunity to plunge this nation into a crises, which is what
they earnestly desire. Its imminent defeat is just a few days away.

Lastly,
we wish to draw the attention of INEC and the world to observe that the
PDP has clearly and openly said it plans to announce parallel results
through some funny device it has procured or developed. We wish to
re-iterate that it is ONLY INEC that is legally and constitutionally
empowered to declare results and it constitutes an offence for anyone to
do so. We urge INEC to SPEAK UP NOW and warn the PDP to desist from
this ignoble act that is capable of plunging the nation into a crises of
immeasurable proportions.

Thank you

FESTUS KEYAMO, SAN, FCIARB(UK)
Director, Strategic Communications, APC Presidential Campaign Council
(Official Spokesperson).

Secondus Says PDP Rejects Shift In Election Date

…..says its Buhari’s agenda to cling to power

………calls on INEC Chairman to resign immediately

The
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche
Secondus has said that shoddy arrangement for this election by the
Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is a deliberate pre
determined agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari to cling on to power
even when it’s obvious to him that Nigerians want him out.

Prince
Secondus said that the postponement which is part of a grand design by
the All Progressives Congress, APC, to thwart the will of Nigerians at
all cost, clearly exposes INEC as a failure and calls on the Chairman of
the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu to resign immediately.

The
PDP leader warns that the party will not accept anything short of a
well organized electoral process devoid of manipulation, harassment
and intimidation of voters and the opposition particularly members of
the PDP.

Having failed in all their nefarious options to
enable them cling on to power, the APC and the INEC came up with the
idea of shifting election an action that is dangerous to our democracy
and unacceptable.

The National Chairman said that the APC
in connivance with the INEC have been trying all options including but
not limited to burning down INEC offices in some states and destroying
of electoral materials to create artificial problems upon which to stand
for their dubious act.

According to a statement from the
National Chairman’s media office signed by Ike Abonyi, Prince Secondus
said that the party is privy to all the pressures from the APC and the
federal government to arm twist the INEC, to dance to their new strategy
after their earlier ones failed.

“With several of their
rigging options failing, they have to force INEC to agree to a shift in
the election or a staggered election with flimsy excuses pre
manufactured for the purpose.

“For the avoidance of
doubt the PDP sees this action as wicked and we are also aware of other
dubious designs like the deployment of hooded security operatives who
would be ruthless on the people ostensibly to scare them away.

He
said that by the action of the President he has further demonstrated
his insensitivity costing the huge cost after Nigerians including those
who came home from abroad have all mobilized to their various
constituencies.

The National Chairman recalls that the
PDP had earlier alerted Nigerians that the APC was coming up with lined
up rigging strategies including burning down of INEC offices and
engineering crisis in PDP strong hold areas to scare away the people.

Prince
Secondus said that the wicked killing of over 60 persons mostly women
and children in Southern Kaduna on the eve of election is a copious ploy
by the APC to frighten the people away from voting knowing too well
that they were not going to record any vote from the area.

“Recall
that the Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir el rufai had earlier
threatened international election observers of going to their country in
body bags and with the fatal violence in the state on the eve of
election, it’s clear what the motives are, to frighten the observers
from the state so that he can carry out his nefarious acts.

The
National Chairman also drew the attention of all lovers of democracy to
the statement of President Buhari on the international media that
nobody can unseat him from office as an indication of what he wants to
do.

Prince Secondus also regretted that President Buhari
who made a promise at the signing of peace accord that the election will
be conducted in a fair and transparent atmosphere has gone ahead in
breach of the peace agreements to send soldiers and other security
agencies to arrest, harass and intimidate opponents in Rivers, Akwa
Ibom, Kwara, Kano, Kaduna states.

Ike Abonyi

Election Postponed: Remain Peaceful In Face Of Provocation, Atiku Tells Nigerian

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has asked Nigerians to remain peaceful in the face of provocation.

Atiku said this in a statement he personally signed
in the early hours of Saturday while reacting to the shift in the dates
for the conduct of the general elections as announced by the Chairman of
the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

Atiku signed the statement which he addressed to Nigerians from Yola, Adamawa State where he had gone to cast his vote.

The
former vice-president said that it was unfortunate that the government
of President Muhammadu Buhari failed to utilise the time it had to
organise the elections.

He likened the actions of the commission to the Biblical hand of Esau but the voice of Jacob.

He
said, “As you know, the Independent National Electoral Commission has
announced a postponement of the elections until 23 February and 9 March
respectively.

“The Buhari administration has had more than enough
time and money to prepare for these elections and the Nigerian people
were poised and ready to perform their civic responsibility by voting in
the elections earlier scheduled for Saturday, 16 February, 2019.

“This
postponement is obviously a case of the hand of Esau but the voice of
Jacob. By instigating this postponement, the Buhari administration hopes
to disenfranchise the Nigerian electorate in order to ensure that turn
out is low on the rescheduled date. Nigerians must frustrate their plans
by coming out in even greater numbers on Saturday, 23 February and
Saturday, 9 March respectively.

“Knowing that the Nigerian people
are determined to reject them, they are desperate and will do anything
in their power to avoid their rejection by the Nigerian people.

“Their
plan is to provoke the public, hoping for a negative reaction, and then
use that as an excuse for further anti-democratic acts.

As such,
I call on all Nigerians to be patient. We have tolerated the
maladministration of this government for four years. We can extend our
tolerance a few more days and give them our verdict via our votes.”

Atiku asked Nigerians to maintain the peace and still endure to come out to vote on the new dates.

He
said, “Maintain the peace and be law abiding. Do not react to this
provocation with anger, violence or any action that might be exploited
by those who do not want this election to hold. Remain calm. We will
overcome this. You can postpone an election, but you cannot postpone
destiny.

“Please come out to vote on Saturday, 23 February and
Saturday, 9 March respectively. Frustrate those who do not want this
election to hold by coming out in very large numbers. That is the best
antidote to their plans.

“May God bless you and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

#NigeriaDecides: EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu Warns Banks Against Suspicious Transactions

NigeriaDecides: EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu Warns Banks Against Suspicious Transactions

The Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on Friday, February 15,
advised Compliance officers of banks to report suspicious transactions
to the EFCC as the general elections commence.

Magu stated this during a meeting with compliance officers of various banks in Benin City, Edo State on Friday.

Magu who was represented by Mailafia Yakubu, Benin Zonal Head of the
Commission said based on information at the disposal of the Commission,
politicians may want to use banks for illicit transactions before,
during and after the elections. “Once the transaction is above the
stipulated treashold, you have a duty to report to us. We want to warn
you not to be used by politicians. So be circumspect, ”
he said.

The acting chairman also warned the bank officials to desist from
disclosing information to suspects wanted by the Commission who operates
accounts with them.

He explains: “there were times that the Commission requested banks to
place no debit on some accounts; instead of doing that, you call the
suspects and say come and withdraw your money because the EFCC want to
PND your account. We want to tell you that we are watching you. You have
to stop it or face prosecution, ” he stated.

It will be recalled that the Commission had on Thursday, February 14,
2019 similarly warned operators of Bureau De Change in the city of
antics of politicians who may want to engage in vote buying through
illicit transactions.

Girl Killed By Train As She Was Looking At Her Phone While Crossing The Tracks

Girl Killed By Train As She Was Looking At Her Phone While Crossing The Tracks

A 15-year-old schoolgirl was struck by a train and killed as she was looking at her phone while crossing a track.

Evie Wright was walking across a level crossing where a footbridge
was supposed to have been built 20 years ago. She went through a gate on
the pedestrian path across the track in Worle, Somerset. A child who
witnessed what happened described seeing Evie with her head down. She
‘kept looking down at her phone, like she was checking the time’ before
being struck by the train.

The witness, who did not know Evie, told an inquest into her death:

The train was quite far away, past the bridge, but I could see it getting bigger as it approached, so I stopped and waited.

The girl kept looking down at her phone, like she was checking the time.

I heard a loud crash as the gate opened and closed behind her, and she looked to be moving vigorously across the track.

She was on the track looking at her phone, and then she leaned forward as if to see the train.

I instinctively closed my eyes, and when I opened them about ten
seconds later, I could see her lying face down on the track, and the
train was stopped.

Train driver Simon Harkus told the inquest:

I saw her looking up at me as she stepped towards the crossing. There
was nothing I could do to stop my train at such a short distance. I saw
the girl hunch down as though bracing herself, and then I felt the
impact as the train hit her.

Evie was said to have ‘loved life’. Earlier that day she had sent
friends a message with a picture of a dress she was planning on wearing
at a sleepover. The coroner found no evidence that she intended to take
her own life.

Following Evie’s death, her father Lee Wright has requested a footbridge be installed by North Somerset Council.

Mr Wright said:

Whilst all this is going on in the background, children are trying to
cross this crossing. Our daughter is not the first to die like this. I
am disappointed in the people responsible for this, and I would like to
request something is done as soon as possible.

Angry Wife Shoots Her Husband After He Refused To Explain A Mystery Phone Call During Their Romantic Valentine’s Day Dinner

Angry Wife Shoots Her Husband After He Refused To Explain A Mystery Phone Call During Their Romantic Valentine’s Day Dinner

A 44-year-old woman, Mayura Panichpongsapak,  shot her husband after
he refused to explain a mystery call to his smart phone during a
romantic Valentine’s Day dinner in Kalasin, Thailand.

Police arrived at a two story house on Friday morning and found Dr.
Ratthasat Panichpongsapak, 45, seriously wounded with a gunshot to the
head. His wife claimed that a  9mm gun went off by accident as they
fought over clothes after she ordered him out of the family home.

The wife is a prominent businesswoman selling Pla Ra (fermented fish)
while the husband has a doctorate and is a prominent figure in Kalasin
educational circles.

Dr Ratthasat had been seriously injured on the right cheek. He was
rushed to hospital after surviving the battery. On the floor was a 9 mm
gun. Clothes were scattered all around.

Pol Col Thaweesak Raksasin of the Somdej police said that Mayura had
told him that the couple had been out to dinner when her husband
received a call on his smartphone. She asked who it was from and he was
evasive.

Back at home the couple began arguing again and she ordered her
husband to pack up his clothes and get out of the family home. He did so
but then things calmed down until 4.30 am when the arguments
resurfaced.

The wife said that the couple were grabbing and wresting over clothes
when her husband’s gun in the pocket of a garment went off resulting in
her husband being shot in the head. She immediately called the
foundation rescue team.

She has been charged with attempted murder that could be changed
dependent on the condition of the husband who is in a serious way in
hospital.

The victim is on the executive board of a well know school in

‘Those Who Say I Don’t Have Stamina Can Say Something Else Now’ — Buhari Speaks

President Muhammadu Buhari says those who said he does not have the stamina to run for a second term can find something else to say, now that he has gone around the country to seek votes.

Many of
Buhari’s critics and some of his supporters had called on the president
not to run for a second term, following his health challenges.

In
2017, the president was away from Nigeria for a medical leave in the
United Kingdom, which lasted over 100 days. Before the long trip, Buhari
had initially gone on a medical vacation that lasted 57 days.

Upon
his return to Nigeria, Buhari spent at least 50 days away from the
public eye, after confirming that he had a blood transfusion, and had
never been this sick in his life.

A security source told TheCable
at the time that his disappearance from office due to rat infestation
of his presidential office was a decoy to keep him under medical care.

The
president has since recovered and resumed his duties as the commander
in chief of the armed forces and the leader of the nation.

In a
brief interview with CNN, Buhari suggested that he has shown his
detractors that he has the stamina to run Nigeria for a second
democratic term.

When asked about those who say he does not have
the stamina to go round all the states for the campaign, Buhari said:
“Well, I have done it, so they can give you another answer”.

Buhari
visited every geopolitical zone in Nigeria in the build-up to the
February 16 election, kicking off his campaign in enemy territory of
Akwa Ibom, and ending the same in his home state of Katsina.
