Kogi Women Take To The Streets To Protest The Renewed Political Violence

Kogi women took to the streets on Saturday February 16, to protest
the renewed political violence that has claimed the lives of residents
in Ihima community, Okehi local government area of Kogi state.

The protest comes after 15 houses were burnt in the area and many were injured in an act of politically-motivated violence.

During the protest, the women cursed the desperate politicians who
sponsored the violence. They went on to call for peace in the land.

In a video shared online, Hajia Abisetu, while speaking on behalf of
the women, said their children have been killed in the violence
allegedly sponsored by Okehi Administrator and Commissioner for water
resources, Salami Ozigi, adding that they don’t want more of their
children to be killed.

Boko Haram Attacks Maiduguri Mosque, Kills 11

No fewer than 11 persons have been confirmed dead after suspected
members of the Boko Haram sect attacked a mosque in Kushari village in

infiltrated the mosque.

“Amaechi Once Asked Me To Bomb INEC Office” – Senator Magnus Abe

The lawmaker representing Rivers South-East Senatorial district, Magnus Abe, on Friday claimed that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi once asked him to bomb the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

He
said this while rubbisshing Amaechi’s claim that he was working with
the State Governor, Nyesom Wike against the interest of the All
Progressives Congress, APC.

In a statement he signed, Abe, who is
a factional governorship candidate of the APC in the state said: “I
have received several calls this morning that the the Minister of
Transportation Rt Hon Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi was on air this morning
alleging that I am being used by Gov Wike to destabilise the APC in
Rivers state.

“It’s unfortunate that the only time we met, at
the office of the national chairman of the APC to try to find some
working solution to crisis in the party, the Hon Minister of
Transportation, Rt Hon Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, spent over two hour
abusing me, and calling me names.

“He did not mention Rivers
state or the APC once in the course of his entire diatribe. The national
chairman could not call him to order or remind him of the purpose for
the meeting that day. Instead the party was bullied into participating
in an illegality.

“Today, rather than discuss how we can come
together despite our differences to mobilise Rivers people to vote for
our party and our President, Minister Amaechi was busy telling Rivers
people that I am being used by Governor Wike.

“Amaechi as
governor worked with me and he is aware that several times he ordered me
to do things that I considered wrong, or incompatible with my
principles, I not only refused to carry out such orders but I always
told him to his face that I would not do them and I never did.

“When
he ordered me to go arrange to bomb the INEC office in Port -Harcourt
after the 2015 elections. I told him to his face that I cannot be part
of any action that would involve violence and death because of politics,
when he ordered the attacks on GDI at the time Governor Wike started
GDI in Rivers state, Gokana was the first local Government in Rivers
state that disobeyed that order, even though there were those hell bent
on carrying out his orders in Gokana at time.

“So Minister Amaechi knows from personal experience that I cannot be used by anybody to do something I do not believe in. His refusal as a leader to accept responsibility for his actions is the reason the party is in this state. The bulk of the fight against Wike in 2015 was in my senatorial district, I led the fight in person from the front even in the face of clear personal danger. It is unfortunate that rather than face the real issues the Minister has continued to engage in name calling, inciting violence, and abusing those that can help to find solutions.”

APC Presidential Campaign Council Rejects INEC Postponement Of Election

PRESS STATEMENT BY APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL ON POSTPONEMENT OF THE PRESIDENTIAL/NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND GUBERNATORIAL/HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS:

WE CONDEMN THE POSTPONEMENT OF THE ELECTIONS, BUT URGE OUR TEEMING SUPPORTERS TO BE PATIENT AND DETERMINED

We
have just received with great disappointment and disillusionment the
announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of
its decision to postpone the Presidential/National Assembly and
Gubernatorial/House of Assembly Elections to Saturday, February 23, 2019
and Saturday, March 9, 2019, respectively.

We condemn and
deprecate this tardiness of the electoral umpire in the strongest terms
possible. President Muhammadu Buhari had since cooperated fully with
INEC by ensuring EVERYTHING it demanded to conduct free and fair
elections were promptly made available to it. This news is therefore a
huge disappointment to us and to our teeming supporters nationwide and
around the world, many of whom have come into the country to exercise
their franchise.

We do hope that INEC will remain neutral and
impartial in this process as the rumor mill is agog with the suggestion
that this postponement has been orchestrated in collusion with the main
opposition, the PDP, that was NEVER ready for this election. We note
that all the major credible demographic projections have predicted a
defeat of the PDP and it seriously needed this breather to orchestrate
more devious strategies to try and halt President Buhari’s momentum. It
did the same as the ruling Party in 2015, when it realized the game was
up, by orchestrating the postponement of the 2015 elections by six
weeks. Now, it may be up to its old trick again.

We have earlier
raised the alarm that the PDP is bent on discrediting this process the
moment it realized it cannot make up the numbers to win this election.
We are only urging INEC not collude with the PDP on this. We are truly
worried because as early as Friday morning, some known PDP Social Media
influencers unwittingly announced this postponement, but quickly deleted
the message and apologized to the public that it was fake news. We do
not want to be forced to a situation of announcing our total loss of
confidence in INEC, because we know where that would leave our
democracy.

It is in the light of the above that we wish to
appeal to Nigerians and our supporters to be patient, calm and resolute
despite this temporary setback. Let us not give anyone, especially the
PDP, the opportunity to plunge this nation into a crises, which is what
they earnestly desire. Its imminent defeat is just a few days away.

Lastly,
we wish to draw the attention of INEC and the world to observe that the
PDP has clearly and openly said it plans to announce parallel results
through some funny device it has procured or developed. We wish to
re-iterate that it is ONLY INEC that is legally and constitutionally
empowered to declare results and it constitutes an offence for anyone to
do so. We urge INEC to SPEAK UP NOW and warn the PDP to desist from
this ignoble act that is capable of plunging the nation into a crises of
immeasurable proportions.

Thank you

FESTUS KEYAMO, SAN, FCIARB(UK)
Director, Strategic Communications, APC Presidential Campaign Council
(Official Spokesperson).

Secondus Says PDP Rejects Shift In Election Date

…..says its Buhari’s agenda to cling to power

………calls on INEC Chairman to resign immediately

The
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche
Secondus has said that shoddy arrangement for this election by the
Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is a deliberate pre
determined agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari to cling on to power
even when it’s obvious to him that Nigerians want him out.

Prince
Secondus said that the postponement which is part of a grand design by
the All Progressives Congress, APC, to thwart the will of Nigerians at
all cost, clearly exposes INEC as a failure and calls on the Chairman of
the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu to resign immediately.

The
PDP leader warns that the party will not accept anything short of a
well organized electoral process devoid of manipulation, harassment
and intimidation of voters and the opposition particularly members of
the PDP.

Having failed in all their nefarious options to
enable them cling on to power, the APC and the INEC came up with the
idea of shifting election an action that is dangerous to our democracy
and unacceptable.

The National Chairman said that the APC
in connivance with the INEC have been trying all options including but
not limited to burning down INEC offices in some states and destroying
of electoral materials to create artificial problems upon which to stand
for their dubious act.

According to a statement from the
National Chairman’s media office signed by Ike Abonyi, Prince Secondus
said that the party is privy to all the pressures from the APC and the
federal government to arm twist the INEC, to dance to their new strategy
after their earlier ones failed.

“With several of their
rigging options failing, they have to force INEC to agree to a shift in
the election or a staggered election with flimsy excuses pre
manufactured for the purpose.

“For the avoidance of
doubt the PDP sees this action as wicked and we are also aware of other
dubious designs like the deployment of hooded security operatives who
would be ruthless on the people ostensibly to scare them away.

He
said that by the action of the President he has further demonstrated
his insensitivity costing the huge cost after Nigerians including those
who came home from abroad have all mobilized to their various
constituencies.

The National Chairman recalls that the
PDP had earlier alerted Nigerians that the APC was coming up with lined
up rigging strategies including burning down of INEC offices and
engineering crisis in PDP strong hold areas to scare away the people.

Prince
Secondus said that the wicked killing of over 60 persons mostly women
and children in Southern Kaduna on the eve of election is a copious ploy
by the APC to frighten the people away from voting knowing too well
that they were not going to record any vote from the area.

“Recall
that the Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir el rufai had earlier
threatened international election observers of going to their country in
body bags and with the fatal violence in the state on the eve of
election, it’s clear what the motives are, to frighten the observers
from the state so that he can carry out his nefarious acts.

The
National Chairman also drew the attention of all lovers of democracy to
the statement of President Buhari on the international media that
nobody can unseat him from office as an indication of what he wants to
do.

Prince Secondus also regretted that President Buhari
who made a promise at the signing of peace accord that the election will
be conducted in a fair and transparent atmosphere has gone ahead in
breach of the peace agreements to send soldiers and other security
agencies to arrest, harass and intimidate opponents in Rivers, Akwa
Ibom, Kwara, Kano, Kaduna states.

Ike Abonyi

Election Postponed: Remain Peaceful In Face Of Provocation, Atiku Tells Nigerian

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has asked Nigerians to remain peaceful in the face of provocation.

Atiku said this in a statement he personally signed
in the early hours of Saturday while reacting to the shift in the dates
for the conduct of the general elections as announced by the Chairman of
the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

Atiku signed the statement which he addressed to Nigerians from Yola, Adamawa State where he had gone to cast his vote.

The
former vice-president said that it was unfortunate that the government
of President Muhammadu Buhari failed to utilise the time it had to
organise the elections.

He likened the actions of the commission to the Biblical hand of Esau but the voice of Jacob.

He
said, “As you know, the Independent National Electoral Commission has
announced a postponement of the elections until 23 February and 9 March
respectively.

“The Buhari administration has had more than enough
time and money to prepare for these elections and the Nigerian people
were poised and ready to perform their civic responsibility by voting in
the elections earlier scheduled for Saturday, 16 February, 2019.

“This
postponement is obviously a case of the hand of Esau but the voice of
Jacob. By instigating this postponement, the Buhari administration hopes
to disenfranchise the Nigerian electorate in order to ensure that turn
out is low on the rescheduled date. Nigerians must frustrate their plans
by coming out in even greater numbers on Saturday, 23 February and
Saturday, 9 March respectively.

“Knowing that the Nigerian people
are determined to reject them, they are desperate and will do anything
in their power to avoid their rejection by the Nigerian people.

“Their
plan is to provoke the public, hoping for a negative reaction, and then
use that as an excuse for further anti-democratic acts.

As such,
I call on all Nigerians to be patient. We have tolerated the
maladministration of this government for four years. We can extend our
tolerance a few more days and give them our verdict via our votes.”

Atiku asked Nigerians to maintain the peace and still endure to come out to vote on the new dates.

He
said, “Maintain the peace and be law abiding. Do not react to this
provocation with anger, violence or any action that might be exploited
by those who do not want this election to hold. Remain calm. We will
overcome this. You can postpone an election, but you cannot postpone
destiny.

“Please come out to vote on Saturday, 23 February and
Saturday, 9 March respectively. Frustrate those who do not want this
election to hold by coming out in very large numbers. That is the best
antidote to their plans.

“May God bless you and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

NigeriaDecides: EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu Warns Banks Against Suspicious Transactions

The Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on Friday, February 15,
advised Compliance officers of banks to report suspicious transactions
to the EFCC as the general elections commence.

Magu stated this during a meeting with compliance officers of various banks in Benin City, Edo State on Friday.

Magu who was represented by Mailafia Yakubu, Benin Zonal Head of the
Commission said based on information at the disposal of the Commission,
politicians may want to use banks for illicit transactions before,
during and after the elections. “Once the transaction is above the
stipulated treashold, you have a duty to report to us. We want to warn
you not to be used by politicians. So be circumspect, ”
he said.

The acting chairman also warned the bank officials to desist from
disclosing information to suspects wanted by the Commission who operates
accounts with them.

He explains: “there were times that the Commission requested banks to
place no debit on some accounts; instead of doing that, you call the
suspects and say come and withdraw your money because the EFCC want to
PND your account. We want to tell you that we are watching you. You have
to stop it or face prosecution, ” he stated.

It will be recalled that the Commission had on Thursday, February 14,
2019 similarly warned operators of Bureau De Change in the city of
antics of politicians who may want to engage in vote buying through
illicit transactions.

‘Those Who Say I Don’t Have Stamina Can Say Something Else Now’ — Buhari Speaks

President Muhammadu Buhari says those who said he does not have the stamina to run for a second term can find something else to say, now that he has gone around the country to seek votes.

Many of
Buhari’s critics and some of his supporters had called on the president
not to run for a second term, following his health challenges.

In
2017, the president was away from Nigeria for a medical leave in the
United Kingdom, which lasted over 100 days. Before the long trip, Buhari
had initially gone on a medical vacation that lasted 57 days.

Upon
his return to Nigeria, Buhari spent at least 50 days away from the
public eye, after confirming that he had a blood transfusion, and had
never been this sick in his life.

A security source told TheCable
at the time that his disappearance from office due to rat infestation
of his presidential office was a decoy to keep him under medical care.

The
president has since recovered and resumed his duties as the commander
in chief of the armed forces and the leader of the nation.

In a
brief interview with CNN, Buhari suggested that he has shown his
detractors that he has the stamina to run Nigeria for a second
democratic term.

When asked about those who say he does not have
the stamina to go round all the states for the campaign, Buhari said:
“Well, I have done it, so they can give you another answer”.

Buhari
visited every geopolitical zone in Nigeria in the build-up to the
February 16 election, kicking off his campaign in enemy territory of
Akwa Ibom, and ending the same in his home state of Katsina.

Man Sentenced To 10 Years Imprisonment With Hard Labour For Defiling A 10-Year-Old Disabled Girl

The Nkukula Magistrate Court in Lilongwe, Malawi on Monday, sentenced
to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour Dickson Kamwendo, 28, for
defiling a 10-year-old disabled girl at Area 49 in the capital.

Kamwendo was arrested on January 31 2019 after being caught defiling
the standard two learner in one of the unfinished buildings.

Parents of the victim said they hired the convict in 2017 to be
transporting the girl to and from school Kanengo Police deputy
spokesperson, Salomy Zgambo Chibwana, said police prosecutor Madalitso
Jere asked for stiff punishment.

“The parents trusted him with their child but he took advantage of her disability and defiled her,” Chibwana said.

In mitigation, Kamwendo pleaded with the court for mercy as he is a bread winner for his family.

However, First Grade Magistrate Cecilia Onsewa said the convict deserved stiff punishment to deter would-be offenders.

Kamwendo is from Mbemba Village, Traditional Authority Phambala, in Ntcheu District.

‘It Is Your Turn To Prove That Nobody’s Political Ambition Is Worth The Blood Of Any Citizen” Ex- President Goodluck Jonathan Calls For Credible 2019 Elections

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has called for peaceful 2019
elections. He made the call in a statement on Thursday, February 14.
Read below:

My dear citizens of our beloved country Nigeria,
My name is Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and I bring good tidings for Nigeria and for you.
Today, I want to talk to you about the coming elections this Saturday, February 16, 2019.
My simple message to you is that if you love Nigeria, you must come out to vote.
As a wise man once said “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
You are all good Nigerians. I therefore urge you to come out and vote based on your conscience and conviction.
The best antidote to rigging of elections is a high voter turnout. Remember, none of us is greater than all of us.
I proved that my political ambition is not worth the blood of any
Nigerian. Now it is your turn to prove that nobody’s political ambition
is worth the blood of any citizen.
Shun violence, shun hatred. Come out this Saturday and vote peacefully
for the Nigeria of your choice. Remember, we are all brothers and
sisters born from the womb of one mother Nigeria.
May God bless Nigeria. GEJ.
